What we do for the environment
At Confort Expert, we try to do our part to contribute to slowing down global warming.
Here are the actions we have implemented to do our part in our field of work.
Conversion of fuel oil/electricity
Every year, we convert several hundred heating systems or water heaters from oil to electricity. According to Natural Resources Canada, the combustion of one litre of fuel oil produces 3.1 kg of CO2. In Quebec, a typical house consumes about 2000 litres of fuel oil annually for its air heating needs and 750 litres of fuel oil for water heating.
So the conversion of an oil furnace to an electric furnace reduces the annual CO2 emission by 6200 kg of CO2 or the equivalent of 1.3 cars gasoline-powered cars.
For an oil-fueled water heater, the equivalent is about 0.5 gasoline-powered cars.
Nitrogen-filled tires
All the trucks in our fleet have nitrogen-filled tires. Various studies show that the fuel savings achieved can reach 6.0%.
The annual consumption of all our trucks is 285,000 litres of gasoline and diesel. The savings achieved is 17,100 litres or 42,750 kg of CO2 or 9 cars.
Vehicle speed limit
All our trucks are equipped with a speed limit of 90 km/h. This measure results in fuel savings of about 17% or 121,125 kg of CO2; roughly 26 cars.
In addition to having a positive impact on the environment, it significantly increases road safety.
Other measures
Freon recovery when replacing an air conditioner or heat pump: since 2004, it has been mandatory to recover halogens from refrigeration appliances. These halogens, when released into the atmosphere, contribute to the reduction of the ozone layer and are a powerful GHG agent. At Confort Expert, recovery policies are followed to the letter and recovery products are returned to certified recyclers.
Installation of deflectors reducing the mechanical resistance due to turbulence: this measure results in a reduction in the amount of fuel consumed.
Implementation of a used filter recycling system with a recognized company: generally in industry, these filters are discarded. As they contain hydrocarbons, they contribute to environmental pollution.
Implementation of a petroleum absorbent recovery system: in the same way it is for filters, this action is beneficial for the environment.
Recovery of all types of metals: we return metals to recyclers which becomes an additional element in reducing environmental pollution.
Refurbishing certain parts: this helps to give our parts a second life.
