Dual-energy heating systems in Montreal

Dual-energy heating systems in Montreal

Systèmes de chauffage biénergie

Quebec winters can be extremely harsh, and heating costs can skyrocket during the coldest months of the year. If you’re an Énergir customer and currently using a central natural gas heating system, switching to a dual-energy system could optimize your home’s heating needs. At Confort Expert, we specialize in installing, repairing and maintaining these systems in the Greater Montreal area. Contact us today in Montreal or Gatineau for more information.

What’s a dual-energy heating system?

Dual-energy heating systems utilize both electricity and natural gas as sources of energy. When the demand for heat is low, electricity is used as the primary energy source. However, when the temperature drops below -12 C, natural gas is used as a backup source to meet your home’s increased heating demand. This system provides the benefits of both energy sources while keeping costs to a minimum.

Benefits of dual-energy systems

Dual-energy systems enable energy to be allocated efficiently, applying the right energy in the right place at the right time. Here are three major benefits:

Systèmes de chauffage biénergie

  1. Lower energy bills. When you switch to a dual-energy heating system, you gain access to Logis Vert’s Rate DT. The average Rate DT is lower than Logis Vert’s first-tier rates, which means you achieve recurring savings on your energy bills while keeping your home warm and comfortable.

  1. Reduced greenhouse gas emissions (GHG). By switching to a dual-energy heating system, you can reduce your natural gas consumption by just over 70 per cent. Moreover, since Quebec’s electricity grid is mostly powered by hydroelectricity, using electricity as your primary heat source makes sense for the environment.

  1. Increased home comfort. Dual-energy heating systems are designed to automatically switch between energy sources based on the outside temperature. This means that you can be sure your home will stay warm and comfortable all winter long, even on the coldest days.

Available grants

Are you considering upgrading to a dual-energy heating system? There are grants available to help cover the costs. Through a partnership between the Quebec government, Énergir and Hydro‑Québec, you could receive up to $5,500 in grants for adding an electric heat pump to your current natural gas central heating system or up to $5,800 for replacing your natural gas heating system with a new one and installing a heat pump.

The Confort Expert team would be happy to help you determine your eligibility and apply.
