The Oil to Heat Pump Affordability (OHPA) Program
The program is intended for homeowners who currently heat their homes with oil to complete the conversion of their system by adding a heat pump.
Recipients receive an initial payment of up to $10,000. This program is available to eligible homeowners across Canada for the purchase and installation of eligible heat pump systems, as well as for all eligible measures related to their installation.
Federal grants are not taxable and do not have to be reported as income.
Once your application is approved, you will receive a cheque. Most often, you will receive your funds before you have to pay the associated fees.
Funding may be combined with additional financial assistance from other existing federal, provincial and territorial programs and services.
All work can be completed within six months of receipt of the grant payment.
APPLICATION PROCESS
You can benefit from the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability program if:
- your household income is at or below the median after-tax income;
- your home is one of the types of properties that qualify;
- you are the primary resident and owner of the home;
- you heat your home with oil (oil heating);
- you have recent receipts for the purchase of at least 500 litres of heating oil (oil) to heat your home in the last 12 months before you applied;
- you are able to complete the work within six months of receiving the initial payment;
- Your home is connected to an integrated electrical grid (for example, the North American electricity grid).
